What does top-load magazine mean when refering to a rifle?

I am was thinking about buying the Mossberg 100 ATR .270 for $249.99. I know this gun has very mixed reviews but i am going to take my chances. How many bullets do top load guns usually hold and how do they work.

What would happen if American troops left Iraq and other surrounding areas, by tomorrow?

Basically, why do terrorists **** the united States, if we left the source of insurgency, wouldn’t 9/11 happen again? A lot of people claim that pulling our troops out of Iraq, would be awesome, but then what do our troops do? Do they just sit on their *****? I mean aren’t soldiers created to fight? Basically, wouldn’t it be better if American soldiers keep ******* bombers at bay out in a desert surrounded area, than a full industrial infrastructure, like New York City, ex. 9/11? So if our troops come home, do they instead sit around tall skyscrapers with machine guns in their hands waiting for ******* bombers to come out of a taxi pulling right up? I mean you have to think about it, “DID 9/11 HAPPEN BEFORE OR AFTER THE IRAQ INVASION?” People also claim that there loved ones have been over in Iraq for years, they been over there to long. But have people forgotten that wars can lost a very long time. For ex. the Hundred Years War. Wars do not have a determined end date. Right? Right?

Essential camera gear for a round the world trip?

Seven weeks from today, my wife and I are starting a nine month RTW trip. We’re both big photography buffs and we’re bringing a Nikon dSLR each, plus a point & shoot. At the same time, we want to keep our gear to a minimum. We’re backpacking, so we’ll probably carry all our gear in our daypacks (nondescript camera bags) every day for nine months.
We expect to be 2 weeks max between large cities. We’re afraid of relying on a portable hard drive for storage (what if it gets stolen). And we want to automate the geotagging of all three cameras. I haven’t bought anything for that yet.

What would you bring?

List an entire setup if you want – I’d love to read what the regulars & experienced travelers in this section would bring!
Or just suggest a specific lens, a third party neck strap/ wrist strap, a way to get all the shots home safely, your favorite GPS solution. Would you bring a flash gun? A battery grip? Provide all the suggestions you want – I’m eager to hear them!
Fhotoace, thanks for the info. A flash is one of my main concerns and your answer has strengthened my instinct to rely on the pop-up. I see you didn’t bring anything faster than f/2.8. My 50mm f/1.4 is another question mark. I’m tempted to bring it.
I have a feeling that I’ll need a lot more CF cards (currently have 4GB). But this is something that I can easily pick up along the way.

Sam, what is this “film” that you speak of ;-) Actually, if you have a tip for a good neck strap, I’m all ears. The standard strap chafes in hot weather and it possibly draws as much attention as the camera itself.
Whoa… a quick search turned up several padded yet bland and super duper slash proof straps. Just the thing. The hits also included this page http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/accessories/0107weird/index1.html which led to this page for an extra terrestrial ring flash: http://www.doctorseyes.com/php/startseite.html You might want to order that for your office, just to see the terror in your patients’ eyes when you point that it in their face.
Vienna, Thank you for all the input. We’re leaning towards 2 normal zooms and possibly a 50mm for redundancy/ low light. I’ll have to think if I want to replace the 50mm with a super wide… and if I really want to drag a 3rd lens along at all. I agree that we’d sooner want a super wide than a tele, but I hadn’t considered super wide vs. f/1.4

I’m curious if you and Fhotoace would still feel the need for a super wide if your normal zoom started at 18mm.

Two votes against a flashgun now.

Still looking for (more) storage & geotagging suggesions.
Terisu, Thanks for the additional gear tips and for the general travel advice. Regarding war-torn countries, we’re staying well away from conflict areas. Our biggest safety concerns are malaria, thieves, and surviving the Mongolian cuisine for three weeks… they say it’s worse than British food. Thieves/ muggers is one reason I won’t even consider a Domke vest. Nah, that’s the only reason - I don’t mind looking silly.

I have some Sniper questions?

Like how there is 2 people, as one is the sniper and the other is the spotter. He has this scope thingie that looks like a video camera and has a grid telling the distance of the object your looking at. Also, how do they measure all that wind speed and being able to find out how far to aim your gun from the target so the target actually ends up running itsel into the bullet? Like, what are all the bits and pieces that come into play at certain distance shots and how do you figure them out? Is there like a chart or something out there, or someone that was recently a Sniper? I am 13 years old and I thought of these questions from the movie “Shooter”. Please help.

Do you think Obama is right or wrong about gun control?

Gun control: Obama supported the interests of the Gun Owners of America 0 percent in 2005. Based on lifetime voting records on gun issues and the results of a questionnaire sent to all state legislative candidates in 2004, the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund assigned Senator Obama a grade of F (with grades ranging from a high of A+ to a low of F).

The bullet has been pushed down into the shell. Safety issues?

Hi, this may be a completely dumb question but I would rather know that be unsafe. My room mate and I have a rule with our firearms that when we are in the house the guns are not chambered. We had an accidental discharge because one was chambered and a guest picked up my pistol when we were out of the room and did not know it was chambered and shot a hole in the floor. I live in a bad neighborhood so I carry after dark when I go out. This means I have to chamber every time I leave the house and dechamber when I come back.

Now for my question…I have noticed that on the first bullet in the mag the projectile has been pushed down deeper into the shell than it was originally, I assume from the constant, almost daily cambering and unloading. Will this cause the round to harm my gun or myself if I fire it? It seats just fine into the barrel and chambers and extracts just fine but I don’t want the thing to blow up inside the gun if I have to use it. Also, what might be causing it to be pushed down like that? Is this normal wear and tear or is my gun feeding poorly?

I took some pictures of the round in question and another from the same box as well as the bullet in my gun and the gun empty:

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any civilian schools where I can learn military arts and strategy?

I want to learn military science and the arts of war, but I don’t want to enroll in a school that forces me to join after I graduate. Is there any other schools or academies where I can learn the above without having to serve?

Off the subject but should courts start being like real estate when it comes to sentencing?

I mean rapper TI only got 1000 hours of community service and less than a year in jail for 2 counts of illegally possessing firearms and 1 count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

People serve more time for for tax evasion (unless your rich or a politician)! Where im from (in virginia) its a mandatory jail sentence of at least 5 years in prison for illegal possession of guns.

This brings me to my point. In real estate when trying to figure out prices they use comparable to come up with a price! Should courts start using comparable when sentencing people!

I know our court system is the best we can do for now, but I would be upset if im in jail for 8 years when someone else who was convited of the same thing only recieved one year.

Any thoughts?
I thought justice was suppose to be blind!
