What would be the best gun for me to purchase for protection?

I’m about to be a single mom, and I am also in the process of moving. I live in a very large, dangerous city and I need some protection. Maybe against my ex, maybe against someone who might break in.

I have used guns before…I grew up in the country. I really fear and respect them and I’ll admit, I BARELY know what I’m doing with one. I’m actually really afraid of them because you never know when an accident will happen. But I figure if I keep it in a safe place and learn to use it well, it could prove to be useful.

So I mean to go to the pawn shop and buy one. I want something that will not jam, dislodge or backfire in an emergency…so I need an automatic right? I like this one gun my dad has, it’s very quiet and it doesn’t kick AT ALL and is very easy to use. I think it is a 9mm or 45 semi. My dad is not going to let me just have that gun bc it’s in his name and worth a lot of money.

So when I’m purchasing a gun…what kind of info do you need to provide? Is there anything that will prevent them from selling to me -I have a clean record so I’m not worried about that. How will I know if the gun is legal etc. Any info will help.

Can I Legally Own a Gun?

My girlfriend is a felon on active supervision (parole). Could I EVER own a firearm and keep it in the home (in a locked safe that ONLY I have the combination to) because I used to love target shooting at the range and had to give that up when we moved in together. I owned two pistols, a 9mm and a .38 special but they’re being kept at my dad’s house now. Just wondering if when she gets off probation if I can keep them in the house as long as they are always locked up. if not thats ok too but im just not sure what the laws are about this.
her conviction was NOT a violent offense and she is not interested in guns in the least.
artman: thank you for your answer, however in the question i was asking about AFTER she is off of active supervision, if there are any laws that would keep me from owning a gun and keeping in a safe in the house. i want to know about AFTER she is done with parole.

Has anyone seen an older gold cap gun M-16 rifle? From the late 70’s/early 80’s?

Hi, in the Late 70’s/Early to Mid 80’s, dad bought me a gold cap gun rifle that looked like an M-16. I’d love to find one that looks like new. If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know the details.

How old do you have to be to own a pistol in Ohio?

I would like to get a pistol for Christmas. thing is im 19. but i asked my father for the pistol. i know that you have to be 21 to purchase pistols but is it like cigarettes and only illegal for minors to purchase them but not own them? would my dad be able to buy it for me under his name but keep it till im 21 then he gave it to me? i dont want nothing big like a .45 or the legendary “desert eagle” (i **** that gun btw) im just thinking a 9mm would be fine. i am also familiar with firearms and firearm safety. i have a range lisence and im a member of the Ohio Rifle and Pistol Association with about 10 long guns and a shotgun. thanks for the help! :-) could you please answer the entire question and be more specific. your answer doesnt really help at all
ok i think i get it. so he can buy it and i can shoot it but i cant own it till im 21. and if i want to shoot it he would have to be with me then?

right to bear arms/concealed weapon?

ok say you go thru the whole registering with the NGA and what not and get a gun. now if you carry it around in a holster up to safty codes and everything, is that considered a concealed weapon?

and what if a cop pulls you over? do you say officer i have a concealed weapon or a registerd gun on my hip??

i tried talking to my excop dad but he didnt help.
sorry, bare. and im in california, not saying i want to get a gun, but we had a heated discussion about it.

i sent of for my shotgun certificate at the exact same time as my dad did….for some reason his came today but i havent got mine yet… even though they had to spend longer on his becuase of his medication ect?? will mine come tommorow do you think?
